Downtown Santa Cruz
Fun Fact: This picture was taken from the hill where
the Mission Santa Cruz was founded in 1791. In 1818 the pirate Hippolyte
de Bouchard sacked Monterey, on the other side of the bay from Santa Cruz.
Fearing they were next, orders came to move all the mission's valuables
to the safer Mission Santa Clara. Many locals volunteered to help... and
promptly lost, ruined or stole the treasures.
